We are looking for a Legal Billing Specialist to join a legal organization in La Jolla, California in a contract capacity with the potential to become permanent. This position is ideal for a detail-focused billing specialist who can manage complex invoicing workflows, support accurate client billing, and navigate electronic billing platforms with confidence. The role works closely with attorneys, billing leadership, and fellow billing team members to keep invoices timely, compliant, and aligned with client-specific requirements.Responsibilities:• Prepare, revise, and finalize pre-bills based on attorney direction, including tasks such as client bill splits, retainer application, and electronic submission setup.• Process billable time and related charges for attorneys and paralegals while ensuring invoices follow client billing rules and firm standards.• Submit invoices through e-billing portals and address rejections, errors, or other submission-related issues to avoid delays.• Manage a substantial billing volume within established cycle deadlines while maintaining accuracy and consistency.• Verify billing details and supporting records before release to confirm completeness and correctness.• Investigate billing questions, troubleshoot discrepancies, and provide clear responses to attorneys, staff, and clients as needed.• Apply client guidelines carefully, including requirements tied to rates, timing, documentation, and cost controls.• Partner with the Billing Manager and other billing team members to meet invoicing goals and improve billing processes over time.• Resolve exception items promptly and work with team members to ensure invoices are submitted on schedule.• Use legal billing systems effectively and identify or troubleshoot software-related issues that impact billing operations.
